| When you first come upon Perfection, on Chao Fa Road Nai, heading towards
Chalong Circle, don’t be distracted by the modest appearance of the
building that houses this treasure. Well tended shrubs, flowers and lawn
in the back embrace the parking slots in this neat and tidy foretaste of
one Phuket’s best experiences. Enter through the main entrance to
reception and a warm, disarmingly shy, welcome.
This is where your surprise really starts. Invited to sit down, relax and discuss your treatment, you could be in someone’s cosily furnished living room, which – according to owner Khun Natthawan Saraphe – is exactly what she aimed for.
A little short of two years ago, Natthawan brought to the task of creating Perfection several years’ experience as a salon manager in Bangkok, some very careful research, masses of advice, finely-honed skills – and a natural flair for pampering, for making you feel relaxed. The result is a unique spa-cum-beauty salon that equals the best of the best in terms of expertise, approach, staffing, products and training, whether you’re there for an aromatherapy massage, leg waxing, a haircut or a full facial. In fact, the only aspect of Perfection’s ‘product’ that does not equal a 5-star hotel spa or salon is its price structure; prices here represent unusual value for money – in itself a rarity on Phuket.
“I set out to make our place feel cosy and homey, a sort of boutique comfort zone,” she says, adding that one of her aims was to create the only truly ‘full service’ beauty salon on the island. And, in the opinion of many, she succeeded. Today, Perfection has a membership of almost 200 local residents, split almost equally between Thais and expatriates, people who feel as though all the pressures of a life in paradise float away the minute they walk through the door. They enjoy the relaxed, friendly environment, the opportunity for an easy-going chat, the chance of bumping into friends away from the usual haunts. These are people who have come to count Natthawan and her staff amongst their friends, something not difficult to achieve. Staff also come to feel part of the business, they become friends with the clients and then everyone’s happy. “That’s Perfection!” said Natthawan with a smile.
She explained that the Perfection membership programme, offering whopping discounts to regulars, is now extended to regular visitors too. Currently only 1,250 Baht, membership can knock from 15-50% off the cost of the whole range of treatments offering you or a family member tremendous savings for the year.
So, Perfection the place is tops. But what about Perfection the experience? I went for a Full Body, Aromatherapy Massage. My masseuse was... perfect. Finding the perfect balance between therapeutic pressure and soothing movements, she was clearly well trained and thoughtful, her movements and demeanour relaxing, never intrusive. The treatment was preceded by a steam ‘sauna’ set at perfect temperature. After my 90 minute treatment, I felt relaxed, contented and pampered... and slept, awaking, totally rested, and refreshed.
If you try only one place on Phuket, you must try Perfection. But call ahead and make a reservation. “Our customers don’t want to feel crowded,” said Natthawan, “and we try to give them what they want, so we control the number of people here at any one time.”
